The Chargers lost an outstanding pitchers' duel in a 9 inning game in the Steve Georgiadis/Seminole Tournament on Tuesday, March 30. Marc B. pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 run, 6 hits and struck out 12. Jason K. worked 1 1/3 innings allowing an unearned run to pick up the loss.

The Chargers scored a run in the top of the 1st inning on a single by John R. With 2 outs Spencer H. lined a single to centerfield to drive in the run. Seminole tied the score in the bottom of the 1st with a lead off home run and had runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out and Marc B. struck out the next 3 hitters in order to retire the side. Marc B. pitched out of another jam in the 4th inning. Seminole had runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out. The Chargers picked a runner off at 2nd base. Then after a walk to the next hitter, Marc B. ended the inning with another strikeout.

In the bottom of the 9th inning Seminole Warhawks won a hard fought game by scoring an unearned run to make the final score 2-1.

The defensive play of the game was made by Brent R. on a run through ground ball play to end the 4th inning with the go ahead runner at 2nd base. Spencer H. caught another outstanding game behind the plate.

Shorecrest vs Northside Christian

Shorecrest 2, Northside Christian 0

Shorecrest won a hard fought pitching duel. Marc B. pitched a complete game shutout for the Chargers. He struck out 9 and only allowed 2 hits.

The Chargers scored a run in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jon O. had a great at bat. With 2 strikes he fouled off 4 pitches and then lined a base hit to right field to start the rally. Tyler L. advanced him to 2nd base. Jake B. lined a hit to left field. John S. got a single to load the bases. Brent R. worked the pitcher for a base on balls to force in the 1st run of the game. This was the only walk the Chargers received during the entire game. The Chargers scored again in the bottom of the 6th inning. Spencer H. led off with a line drive base hit. Tyler L. reached on an error and Spencer H. scored from 2nd base to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead going into the 7th inning.

Marc B. then retired the side in order, striking out 2 to end a very exciting game.

Defensive players of the game were John R. with 2 very good catches in center field. Brent R. made a great back handed stab of a hard hit ground ball in the fold at shortstop and threw the batter out at 1st base. The Chargers played very good defense throughout the game.

Monday, March 22
Shorecrest 11, St. John Neumann 1

The Chargers scored 2 runs in the 1st inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Chargers scored another 3 runs in the 2nd inning to increase the lead to 5-0. St. John Neumann scored its only run of the game to cut the lead to 5-1. The Chargers answered with another run in the 3rd, 3 runs in the 5th and 2 runs in the 7th for an 11-1 win.

Brian K. and Spencer H. were the defensive players of the game. Brian K. made a diving catch in right field and also threw out a runner at 1st base. Spencer H. made a diving play on a ground ball and was able to get up to throw the batter out at 1st to rob him of a base hit.

Jason K. picked up the win pitching a good win and going the distance. He allowed 1 run, 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.

Thursday, March 18

The Chargers scored 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Jon O. led off with a long double. Tyler L. reached on an error. Jake B. singled to drive in the 1st run of the game. Tyler L. scored on a wild pitch to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the 3rd John R. walked, Marc B. singled and Spencer H. got a base hit to drive in a run to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Chargers. Trenton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Chargers broke the game open in the bottom of the 5th inning by scoring 4 runs. Jake B. led off with a base hit. Brent R. walked, Marc B. drove in a run with a base hit. Spencer H. also singled to drive in a run. Jason K. doubled to drive in 2 runs to make the final score 7-1 in favor of Shorecrest.

Marc B. pitched the entire 7 inning game and did not allow an earned run. He gave up 5 hits and struck out 14 while walking only 2.

The Chargers came from behind late in the game to win. Newberry scored a run in the 1st inning. The Chargers scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Chargers scored a run in the 5th to tie the game 3-3. Newberry came right back in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Chargers scored 7 runs in the top of the 6th to take the lead 10-5. Then the Chargers scored 2 runs in the 7th inning to make the final score 12-5.

Tyler L. pitched a very good game by pitching a complete game and picked up the win. He allowed no earned runs, 5 hits, 14 strikeouts and no walks in pitching the complete game.

The Chargers displayed solid pitching, defense and hitting in the game on Monday afternoon. They scored 9 runs in the top of the 1st inning to jump out in front 9-0. The Chargers scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 5 runs in the 3rd, 3 runs in the 4th to take a commanding 19-0 lead.

Jason K. was the winning pitcher pitching 2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks and 2 strikeouts. Andrew R. pitched 2 innings with no runs, no walks, 1 hit and 4 strikeouts. Austin R. pitched 1 inning, allowing no runs, no hits, no walks and 1 strikeout. The game was stopped after 5 innings because of the 10 run rule.

Shorecrest won a hard fought game at St. Stephens by scoring 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Brent R. led off with a base hit and Spencer H. singled and drove in the 1st run of the game. Jason K. singled and Jon O. walked. Tyler L. singled to drive in a run. Will S. drove in a run with a base hit to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.

St. Stephens scored a run in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut the lead to 3-1. The Chargers came right back in the top of the 6th inning and scored another run. Jon O. led off with a triple and scored on an error to make the score 4-1.

Marc B. pitched a strong game for the Chargers and a complete game and did not allow an earned run. He struck out 8, walked only 1 and gave up 8 hits. The Chargers turned 2 very nice double plays and played good defense the entire game. Spencer H. was very good behind the plate and threw out 2 out of 2 base runners trying to steal. The Chargers played a very good game with good pitching and good defense and some timely hitting.

The Chargers came out in the 1st inning swinging the bats extremely well and scored 2 runs. They broke the game open with 12 runs in the 2nd inning, 5 runs in the 3rd and finished with an additional 5 runs in the 5th. Tyler L. got the win pitching 3 innings allowing 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts, 4 hits and no walks. Brian K. worked the last 2 innings. Cody T. made the defensive play of the game with a spectacular diving one handed back handed stab and was able to get up and throw the batter out at 1st.

St. Pete Catholic scored a run in the top of the 1st inning on a walk, a balk and 2 wild pitches to take a 1-0 lead. In the 4th inning they scored another run on a single and a double to increase the lead to 2-0.

After the first 11 Charger hitters had been retired in order, Marc B. doubled in the 4th inning but the Chargers were unable to score.

St. Pete Catholic broke the game open in the 5th inning scoring 7 runs to take a commanding 9-0 lead. They struck again for 2 more runs in the top of the 6th to make the final score 11-0.

The Chargers had 1 hit and only had 3 base runners during the game.

John S. was the starting and losing pitcher. He pitched effectively for 4 innings. John R. and Andrew R. worked the last 1 1/3 innings of the ball game.

The Chargers next game is against Out of Door Academy on Wednesday, March 10 at 4:00 pm.

The Chargers scored 1 run in the bottom of the 1st inning. John R. led off with a base hit but was thrown out attempting to steal 2nd. Brent R. walked and Marc B. walked. With 2 outs Jason K. singled to drive in the 1st run of the game. In the 3rd inning John R. doubled, Brent R. walked and Marc B. singled to drive in a run to make the score 2-0 in favor of Shorecrest. John S. led off the 4th inning with a hit and Brent R. tripled to drive in the run and give the Chargers a 3-0 lead. The Chargers scored another run in the 5th inning on a triple by Jason K. and he scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0.

Pinellas Park scored 7 runs in the top of the 7th inning on 1 hit and 2 hit batters, 2 walks, a sacrifice fly and 4 errors to win the game 7-4.

Marc B. pitched 6 innings with 12 strikeouts and allowed only 3 hits, 2 walks, 1 hit batter and no earned runs.
