Lee Byers Invitational Tournament

Shorecrest 7, Ridgewood 5

The Chargers won the first game of the Lee Byers Invitational Tournament held at East Lake High School 7-5. The Chargers hit the ball well early in the game. In the 1^st inning they left runners on 2^nd and 3^rd and were unable to score. Ridgewood scored a run in the bottom of the 1^st inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Chargers left the bases loaded in the top of the 2^nd inning and were again unable to score.

In the top of the 4^th inning, Jason K led off with a walk.  Andrew R. and Jon O. both also walked to load the bases.  Brent R. then singled to drive in the 1^st run. John R walked to force in the 2^nd run and then Spencer H. doubled to drive in 3 runs to give the Chargers a 5-1 lead.

Jason K. singled to lead off the 5^th inning. John S. then reached on an error. Andrew R. grounded out and then Jon O. drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Brent R. reached on an error and John S. scored to make the score 7-1.

Ridgewood answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6^th inning to cut the lead to 7-5.

Jordan L. picked up the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 7 strikeouts and 1 earned run.  Marc B. picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs, no hits and throwing 4 strikeouts.

The Chargers will be playing Tarpon Springs in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday, February 17 at 4:00 pm.
