Shorecrest finished 4
th in the Lee Byers East Lake Tournament losing a very well played, hard fought game against East Lake. The Chargers scored a run in the top of the 2
nd inning on a walk to Jon O. and an RBI single by John S. East Lake scored a run in the bottom of the 2
nd inning to tie the game 1-1. John R. led off the 3
rd inning for the Chargers with a single. Brent R. drew a base on balls. Spencer H. hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run for the Chargers to give them a 2-1 lead. East Lake scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3
rd inning on a walk, an infield error and a 2 base hit to take a 3-2 lead. The Chargers scored a run in the 5
th inning on a lead-off walk to John S. Jake B. hit into a fielders’ choice. John R. walked. Brent R. singled to load the bases and Spencer H. walked to force in a run tying the game up 3-3. The game remained tied going in to extra inning. The Chargers were unable to score in the 8
th inning. East Lake scored a run in the bottom half of the 8
th inning to win the game with a base on balls to lead off the inning. Spencer H. threw the runner out trying to steal for the 1
st out. Then a batter was hit by a pitch. The next batter got a base hit to put runners on 1
st and 3
rd. The winning run scored on a wild pitch.
The Chargers played very good defense the entire game. Jordan L. pitched an outstanding game. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, 5 hits, struck out 6 and walked only 1.
