The Chargers scored 9 runs against Admiral Farragut in the 1st inning to break the game open. John R. led off with a base hit. Brent R. singled. Spencer H. reached on an error and a run scored. Jordan L. was hit by a pitched ball. Jason K. drove in a run with a ground out. John S. singled to drive in a run. Jon O. singled to drive in another run. Miles B. singled and drove in 2 runs. Spencer was again hit by a pitch. Marc B. doubled to drive in a run.

Jason K. walked to start off the 2nd inning. Jon O. doubled to drive in a run. Miles B. hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run to make the score 11-0.

Austin R. started off the 3rd inning with a base hit. Jordan L. hit a 2 run homer to give the Chargers a 13-0 lead. Miles B. led off the 4th inning with a base on balls. Jake B. and Andrew R. also walked. Spencer H. doubled to drive in 2 runs. Austin R. and Will S. both walked. Brian K. doubled to drive in 2 runs. Cody T. reached on an error and a run scored. Jon O. tripled to drive in 2 runs. Miles B. walked and Jake B. singled to drive in a run.

The Chargers pitching was outstanding. Jason K. picked up the win, pitching 3 innings allowing no runs, 1 hit and 7 strikeouts. Brian K. worked 2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits and 4 strikeouts.

Shorecrest vs East Lake - Lee Byers Invitational Tournament

 Shorecrest finished 4th in the Lee Byers East Lake Tournament losing a very well played, hard fought game against East Lake. The Chargers scored a run in the top of the 2nd inning on a walk to Jon O. and an RBI single by John S. East Lake scored a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the game 1-1. John R. led off the 3rd inning for the Chargers with a single. Brent R. drew a base on balls. Spencer H. hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run for the Chargers to give them a 2-1 lead. East Lake scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a walk, an infield error and a 2 base hit to take a 3-2 lead. The Chargers scored a run in the 5th inning on a lead-off walk to John S. Jake B. hit into a fielders’ choice. John R. walked. Brent R. singled to load the bases and Spencer H. walked to force in a run tying the game up 3-3. The game remained tied going in to extra inning. The Chargers were unable to score in the 8th inning. East Lake scored a run in the bottom half of the 8th inning to win the game with a base on balls to lead off the inning. Spencer H. threw the runner out trying to steal for the 1st out. Then a batter was hit by a pitch. The next batter got a base hit to put runners on 1st and 3rd. The winning run scored on a wild pitch.

The Chargers played very good defense the entire game. Jordan L.  pitched an outstanding game. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, 5 hits, struck out 6 and walked only 1.

Tarpons Springs scored a run in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead. Shorecrest came right back and scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. John R. led off with a base hit. Brent R. moved him to 2nd base on a ground out. Spencer H. reached on a 2 base error, scoring John R. Marc B. hit a 2 run homer to give the Chargers a 3-1 lead.

Tarpons Springs scored a run in the top of the 2nd inning and the top of the 3rd to tie the score 3-3. The Chargers scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a hit by pitch by Spencer H. Jason K. drove Spencer H. in with a double to give the Chargers a 4-3 lead. Tarpon Springs scored 4 runs in the top of the 4th to go ahead 7-4. In the bottom of the 4th Jon O. singled and Jake B. reached on a fielder’s choice. John R. and Brent R. both walked and Jake scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-5. Tarpon Springs added 2 more runs in each of the 5th and 7th innings to make the final score 11-5.

Shorecrest vs Ridgewood - Lee Byers Invitational Tournament

The Chargers won the first game of the Lee Byers Invitational Tournament held at East Lake High School 7-5. The Chargers hit the ball well early in the game. In the 1st inning they left runners on 2nd and 3rd and were unable to score. Ridgewood scored a run in the bottom of the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Chargers left the bases loaded in the top of the 2nd inning and were again unable to score.

In the top of the 4th inning, Jason K led off with a walk.  Andrew R. and Jon O. both also walked to load the bases.  Brent R. then singled to drive in the 1st run. John R walked to force in the 2nd run and then Spencer H. doubled to drive in 3 runs to give the Chargers a 5-1 lead.

Jason K. singled to lead off the 5th inning. John S. then reached on an error. Andrew R. grounded out and then Jon O. drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Brent R. reached on an error and John S. scored to make the score 7-1.

Ridgewood answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the lead to 7-5.

Jordan L. picked up the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 7 strikeouts and 1 earned run.  Marc B. picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings, giving up no runs, no hits and throwing 4 strikeouts.

The Chargers will be playing Tarpon Springs in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday, February 17 at 4:00 pm.
